Programming Notes

First off, Happy Passover, Easter and kids spring break.  I’m taking the next few days off and Margot will be filling in with some VERY special surprises about Radio Free Lunch and Go Figure.

Check  Dave FM for the daily RFL topics for Thursday and Friday.  Margot is also in charge of “Go Figure” Thursday and Friday so I know they will be extremely hard. Good luck!!  Up for grabs a nights stay at the Loews Midtown and tickets to see Elvis Costello April 26th at the Tabernacle.

On Monday we have something super cool to debut on the station.  At this point it’s still a secret (you’ll love it, promise) so stay tuned. What I can can tell you that Radio Free Lunch and Go Figure will be on hiatus for the week of April 5th – 9th.  I’ll be back on the air April 7th and the features will return April 12th.

I’ll be bloggin’ while I’m on vacation (limited but you know I can’t stay away) so check back if you care.  Have a good week!!

So Not A Drag

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

It was a late night last night checking out “The Jungle” nightclub for Miss Sophia’s (from V103) show.

Miss Sophia and I from an event last summer

First off it starts at 11pm (!!) which is like beyond bedtime for my old ass.  I dragged Elizabeth on a Monday night (she’s young and can handle it) to see the glitz, glamour and gayness.  This was our first drag show and it was on FIYAH.  So many great entertainers in so much time (almost 3 hours!!).  Miss Sophia and another gal (?) were the hosts for people who sang like Beyonce, Sade, India Aria and so many more.  The hiding of the junk is totally fascinating and I’m still puzzled that the DUDES are ladies.  Unfortunately they didn’t allow pictures so you’re just going to have to use your imagination.  I just loved the energy of the whole thing.  It was too much fun!!  Now if they could only make it EARLIER I’d go every week!

Wednesday’s RFL

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Atlanta parents are fighting to keep music programs in schools as Fulton County tries to cut funding.  For today’s show  request songs about music, musical genres or musical instruments.  See what local parents are doing to keep the fight alive in from yesterday’s AJC.  Thanks for posting your comments for RFL at Dave-FM!!

This Weekend

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

Wilco at the Fox was FABULOUS!!  The show was great even if Jeff Tweedy wasn’t feeling the crowd taking photos.  He made several jokes about this. When I tried to snap an iphoto security was on my ass in a hot minute.  Funny.  We ate at Livington for dinner which was great.  As a matter of fact I’ll be there again tonight after Chelsea Handler at the Fox.  It’s weird because I’m hot and cold with her but hear her stand up is fantastic.  I’ll report back.  Dave-FM also had our Circle Of Friends with Need To Breathe. These guys have a HUGE following and their acoustic set was pleasantly good.  Next week I’m only on the air for a few days since it’s Charlie’s Spring Break.  We’re headed to St. Simons (as usual to hang with Mike’s parents).  Monday night I’ll be going to the Jungle to see Miss Sophia do a drag show that starts at 11PM (!!!).  This is very late for grandma to be awake but I am determined to show my support since I’m her #1 fan.  Pictures to follow!!

Friday’s Radio Free Lunch

Friday, March 26th, 2010

This is always a listener favorite so let’s do it again.  Who are your favorite Dave-FM one hit wonders?  Thanks for posting your RFL comments at Dave-FM!

American Idol Fail

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

No, I’m not talking about Miley’s Cyrus’s trailer trash outfit (OMG what was that?!?!).  There was a perfect opportunity to….mention the legendary late Alex Chilton since Lee Dewayze sang his classic “The Letter” (by the Box Tops).  No one said anything!  Do you think this was a coincidence he sang this song?  I’m not the only one who thought this—Rolling Stone said the same thing.

Thursday’s Radio Free Lunch

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Neil Young is coming to the Fox Theater for a solo (!!) show May 29th at the Fabulous Fox Theater. Tickets go on sale this Saturday and we’ll have your free tickets. Request Neil songs, songs about being young or that mention young. This also ties in with the March Madness Sweet 16.  Thanks for posting your requests at Dave-FM.

Sinuses And Jennifer Coolidge

Friday, March 19th, 2010

She was lovely, funny and a terrific interview today during Radio Free Lunch.  See all the photos from her appearance now at Dave-FM.  I’d post the original here but I’m too freaking exhausted to even get the cord out for my camera (and it’s better that I get an extra web hit there ;) ).

There was a big event that I was supposed to be at tonight but I just couldn’t do it, I am a sick, tired, congested  mess. After work I hit the bed  and just mustered out the energy to do this (cue violins here).

It’s a big day tomorrow—Charlie has his first soccer game at the crack of dawn and we’re so excited.  Mike is coaching and I can’t wait.  After that I’ll be broadcasting from 11-1pm at Rosebud as part of a celebration for the first day of spring.  It should be fun and I’m going to feel better if it kills me.  Plus, I’m supposed to go to a wacky V103 event (more on that later) tomorrow night so I have to get it together.

Have a good weekend!!

Friday’s Go Figure

Each day at 10AM we play 3 songs that share a common thread. You guess what it is and win a great prize.

 “Carnival” Natalie Merchant

Answer: Things you do outside.

For Monday’s segment, the 3 songs has something to do about what is going on Monday night.
