Sunday, July 26th, 2009

July 27th the 25th anniversary of Prince’s Purple Rain.

For Monday’s Radio Free lunch, we want to hear what your favorite soundtracks are.  Some early suggestions have been “Stop Making Sense”, “The Last Waltz”, “Almost Famous” and “Singles”.  Which one is a must have in your music collection??

Overwhelmed And Overjoyed

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Friday night’s party for my 40th was beyond amazing!!  There were so many great friends, coworkers and listeners celebrating with me. The highlights were Yvonne Monet spinning the jams and Yacht Rock bringing down the house. There wasn’t anyone present who wasn’t dancing up a storm. Thanks to my “roasters” Miss Sophia, Norm, Kaedy, Andrew and Charles–you guys were great.  My favorite part of the night was a video that was produced for the party.  For the most part, Atlanta radio gives me HELL (this will be posted next week, stay tuned!) and it was hilarious. All of this could not have been possible without my dear friends and coworkers Lisa, Will and Elizabeth (love you!!) and our sponsors the W Hotel, Cape North Vodka, The Highland Bakery, Ford and the greatest radio station on the planet, Dave-FM! If you went THANK YOU for being there to wish me well!!!  I’m OFFICIALLY 40 on Tuesday but feel like I’m 70 today ;) .  It was a long but FABULOUS night.

Two First Names

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Chris Isaak

Friday’s Radio Free Lunch idea was inspired by Chris Isaak playing Chastain Saturday night. Since he has two first names, we’ll play songs from artists who have a first name for a last name.  Debbie Harry, Chris Martin and Joe Jackson are some of the highlights! There are so many to choose from!!

Ride It Out

Summer is the season for riding roller coasters and theme parks.  For Thursday’s Radio Free Lunch, we’ll come up with song titles that would work as the name of an amusement park ride.  Some of the early choices are Love Roller Coaster,Tunnel of Love or Cannonball.  Can’t wait to see what you come up with!!

Wednesday With Margot

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Dave-FM’s music goddess will be filling in for Radio Free Lunch as I am part of a CBS radio luncheon.  The theme idea comes from the couple who met on Facebook with the same name and got married.  In honor of this she’ll play songs that have the same title but are different songs (homonyms).  Think Learning To Fly by Pink Floyd and Tom Petty or Drive by REM and Icubus.  Margot will also have Gov’t Mule’s Warren Haynes in the studio with her just after 7pm.  Go girl!!!

Hot Licks

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Did you know that July was National Ice Cream month? Tuesday’s Radio Free Lunch will be inspired by Ben and Jerry ice cream flavors. Phish Food, Dave Matthews Magic Brownies and Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road are all existing flavors. Post a suggestion for a new one and we’ll pass the ideas on to the creative department and Ben and Jerry’s.

Cherry Garcia

This is always one of my favorite topics to revisit. Here is a hilarious article on when people were coming up for ice cream flavors for President George W. Bush—spinning from President Obama’s “Yes Pecan” ice cream flavor last January.

Men On The Moon

Monday, July 20th, 2009

By popular demand, Monday’s Radio Free Lunch will be “moon” songs to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11’s historic moon landing.  There are SO many great songs to choose from so I can’t wait to hear your suggestions!!

the Untold Stories

Here is some cool “moon” footage with an unrealeased Pink Floyd track from back in the day.  There is a neat story about this in today’s New York Times.
