Mara talked with Rich Robinson

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Yesterday Mara got the chance to speak with Rich Robinson of The Black Crows. He was promoting The People Speak for the Atlanta Film Festival.

OK, so it is a lil’ shaky. Of course it is not all my fault, I had to use our old camera and it is low quality.

PS: Isn’t Rich so much hotter than his brother Chris?

Record Store Day

Friday, April 17th, 2009

This Saturday is “Record Store Day” which celebrates independently owned record stores. They come together with artists to celebrate the art of music and the fun of shopping in the store (remember that?!).  Lots of bands are releasing special vinyl in honor of this.  For Friday’s Radio Free Lunch I want to know, what was the first record you ever bought? Or what record do you remember going to the record store to get?  Support your local record store this weekend! Here is a list of participating retailers.

Work It

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Last night, Elizabeth and I went to see Lily Allen at the Variety Playhouse.  She kind of dragged me and I’m happy to report it was fantastic.  Lily was much better than we expected.

Baby News for Lily Allen

Before the show we went to dinner at The Porter and happened to notice Margret Cho in the restaurant.  She is in town filming a new series called “Drop Dead Diva”.

If you’re a fan of Margret’s or you are just out of work—the show is looking for extras of all ages and ethnicities this weekend.  Here are the details:

The open call will be held, Saturday, April 18th, 2009 & Sunday, April 19th, 2009 from 10:00am to 6:00pm in the North Dekalb Mall located at 2050 Lawrenceville Hwy, Decatur, GA 30033. We will be in the Macy’s Wing, across from Ross: Dress For Less.  No experience necessary. If you are interested in please bring a recent Polaroid photo of yourself.

Speak Out

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Last night thousands of people showed up downtown to speak out against taxes and federal spending.  Tonight is the premiere of the documentary “The People Speak” as part of the Atlanta Film Festival.  We’ll tie these two together by playing songs from artists who are also activists.  There are tons to choose from like Bono, Sting and Chrissie Hynde (Peta).  Also during today’s show Rich Robinson from the Black Crowes is scheduled to stop by at 1pm to talk about the film.

He’s in it along with Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, Bob Dylan and Eddie Vedder.  Vedder, Rich Robinson and Josh Brolin will be at the event tonight.  I’ll have tickets to give away so make sure you listen!

Flower Power

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

The weather is finally cleared up and the spring flowers are starting to bloom.  Wednesday’s Radio Free Lunch will be all about flowers and gardening in general.  On the list so far is “Nothing But Flowers”, “Wildflowers” and in my garden “Dead Flowers”.

Part of the inspiration for this show was from the Dead’s visit to the White House.  The guys from the band met president Obama and noticed there were “Scarlet Begonias” in the vase outside the Oval Office.  How cool is that?!

Atlanta Film Festival

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Attention film lovers!  The Atlanta Film Festival starts this Thursday night at their opening gala.  Josh Brolin, Eddie Vedder and Rich Robinson from the Black Crowes are scheduled  to be at the Rialto for a Q&A.  It’s all for the film “The People Speak”.  I’ll have tickets to give away on my show this Thursday.  Here’s a trailer:

Revisiting

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Tom Petty’s “Into The Great Wide Open” video.  If you’re looking to get into the music business, watch this first.  Johnny Depp looks so young!  This is so great.

Friend Request

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Facebook has become so huge, even my mother in law is in to it.  Then I came across this article about how women over 55 is the fastest growing group on the networking site.  Crazy!  In honor of this and because of Dave-Fm’s Live “Circle Of Friends” 2 CD being released today, Radio Free Lunch will be all “friend” songs.  Think “Waiting On A Friend”, “My Friends” and for cheese maybe “Whenever I Call You Friend”….

First Pets

Monday, April 13th, 2009

It’s official!  The Obama family has finally gotten their new dog.  It’s about time because I’m so sick of hearing news people speculate over when, where and what kind.  It’s a Portuguese Water Dog named Bo.

In honor of “Bo” (named after Michelle’s Grandfather “Diddley) Monday’s Radio Free lunch will be all about pets.  There have been plenty of dogs, cats, birds and even horses in the White House (this is an interesting list).  Of course we’ll play “Pets” by Porno for Pyros and other choices are “Hey Bulldog” by the Beatles and “Cool For Cats” by Squeeze.
