Fan Club

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Since Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews and Fleetwood Mac are all in town next week—Radio Free Lunch will feature bands with the biggest fan bases. Obviously any group that has “head” associated with them (Dead, Spread, Parrot) will work or any artist with passionate followers (Tori Amos, Stevie Nicks).

Beatles fans wait to see their idols at the Gaumont Theatre in 1963.

Honorable Mentions

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

I am so excited for my pal Will Draper from The Village Vets!  Check out this cool article on his vet practice.  You go Drapers!!  Another person worth metnioning is the fabulous Stephanie Blank. She’s being honored tonight at a gala for Quality Care For Children.  I’m the emcee and am thrilled to be a part of this amazing cause.  And in totally unrelated mentioning—shout out to one of my boxing trainers (yes, I box) Jaral.  He is part of the Bangkok Fight Night Saturday night at Center Stage.  If you are into kickboxing or martial arts this is for you.  Go Jaral!!

Bruce Tickets!

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

During Thursday’s Radio Free Lunch we’ll do another “mystery theme”.  The first people that figure out what all of the songs/artists have in common will win tickets to the show Sunday night at Phillips Arena.

Good luck!!!

Save The Planet

Earth Day is today!  In honor of this we’ll play all songs that mention “earth” or “world” for Radio Free Lunch.  There are tons!

Grrrrrrr

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

When the headline on the AJC said “Exotic Dancer Blitzed Rival With Stiletto” I was intrigued.  What’s even more interesting is that the person attacked was a 52 year old exotic dancer!? Is the economy that bad or are women just getting sexier with age?  Speaking of sexy older ladies, have you seen TV Land’s new train wreck called “The Cougar”?!?  How is this woman even considering hooking up with a 21 year old when she’s 41!  Creepy! Vivica A Fox is the WORST host ever.  Ugh, I am hooked!!  It is so bad it’s baaaad.  Watch this if you dare!!

Mara talks with David Gahan

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Mara got the chance to talk with David Gahan of Depeche Mode this morning. They talked about the up-coming tour, spreading his wings on Hollywood Blvd. and Johnny Cash covering Personal Jesus.

Here is the video of Johnny Cash covering Personal Jesus.

Twitter is taking over the world!  Oprah is using it to cancel shows, Ashton Kutcher battled CNN for followers, Meghan McCain is creeped out by Karl Rove on it and Stephen Colbert uses it in the funniest way I’ve ever heard:

Tuesday’s Radio Free Lunch will be songs that refer to Twitter as in following (I Will Follow, Follow You Down) or songs about knowing too much (You Outta Know, I Need To Know) for the nation’s obsession with “Tweeting”.

Alliteration Station

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Let’s keep it simple today—Monday’s Radio Free Lunch will be an alliteration theme.  Think Foo Fighters or Red Rain by Peter Gabriel.  Bands or song titles will work.  It’s a slow news day and I REFUSE to do anything on that Scottish American Idol You Tube sensation.  What a fix!!  Seriously.

Grey Gardens, Bravo, etc.

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Every gay I know has seen and is obsessed with this documentary.  Because of this I was fascinated with seeing the HBO movie with Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange.

Making Grey Gardens

These women are incredible actresses and there is no doubt they will win stuff for their performances.  They did a great job with this film.  I’m so excited to see the real documentary (thanks Tom!) after watching the dramatization.  Totally checking that out this week.

Since I love all things gay—I had to check out Bravo’s A-List Awards and Kathy Griffin’s comedy special from last week. For the most part it all pretty much sucked. This is not because I’m bitter that Kathy won’t do a radio interview in Atlanta (For real!  Lame!). I did catch a preview for the new “Real Housewives of New Jersey” and I’m SO in.  If you dig the other RH’s you will love these girls.  The full season starts in May.

Hall And Oates

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

We saw them Friday night at Chastain.  This was our 4th or 5th time seeing them (big fans over here) and it was just OK.  We loved hearing all of the hits, but it kinda seemed like they were phoning it in.

“I Can’t Go For That” was definitely the best song of the night.  Tonight we’re laying low with my mom who is in town till tomorrow.  I’m hoping I can stay up late enough to watch Grey Gardens on HBO!!!
