Cranky

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

Have you ever had one of those nights/mornings where you want to scream?  Last night an alarm went off in my neighborhood at 4AM and it didn’t stop beeping till 8AM.  AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!  This has been a crazy 24 hours as I’m still recovering from last night’s Fun Fete, a benefit for Prevent Child Abuse Georgia.  They raised tons of money (yay!) and it was really fun. Jeff Foxworthy was the guest of honor and he did a hilarious/touching speech.

Nice meeting you Jeff!

Night Moves

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Friday will be Conan O Brien’s last show as the host of Late Night.  In honor of this we’ll play all songs associated with late nights (After Midnight, Late In the Evening, Tonight Tonight) for Radio Free Lunch.  In case you missed it, here’s my ridiculously geeked out interview with Conan at channel 11 a few weeks ago.

Nerd!! It will be interesting to see how Conan’s move will change the late night TV landscape.  Jimmy Fallon is taking over for Conan (yikes) in March and Jay Leno will be on weeknights at 10 starting in August (gulp).  In other late night TV news–U2 will be on Letterman for a week (and everywhere else) when their new record comes out March 3. You don’t have to wait to hear it though, Dave FM presents the world premiere of No Line On The Horizon starting Friday.  We’ll be playing the crap out of it all weekend too.  Can’t wait to hear something besides “Get On Your Boots”!!

Fashion Week

It’s going on in NYC and in Vinings;).  Come see me tonight at the Sandpiper and Emly Benham!  This event is always too much fun.

From OC To NYC

Oh Real Housewives, how I love you.  The finale with all of the ladies of Orange County was a (hot) mess. Dlisted gives a killer recap of the show but didn’t mention the amazing Jeanna. I don’t know what it is, but I feel like I want to be her friend. My other wannabe BFF is Jill Zarin from the NYC group.  She reminds me of every girl I went to high school with. This new season in the Hamptons is going to be great, I’m already hooked (duh)!!!

Slumdog Millionaire

Everyone is talking about the Oscar nominated “Slumdog Millionaire”, including my very creative listener Sue Youngerman.  She sent me a terrific suggestion for Wednesday’s Radio Free Lunch. Since the film takes place in India and deals with Indian culture, our music will reflect that in the lunch set.  I’ll play all songs that feature the sitar (Don’t Come Around Here No More), mention India (Thank U, Alanis Morissette) or have some connection to being Indian (Norah Jones).  For those who love Indian food (me!) the AJC did a piece on the best Indian restaurants and Modern Day Masala puts together great mixes so you can make it at home.  Mmmm Curry!!!!

Whistle While You Work

It’s a slow news day.  The only story that caught my eye was the Texas Fire Balls in the sky but couldn’t come up with a good spin.  I’ve been wanting to do a whistling show after seeing Andrew Bird.  Also, every time I hear “Working On A Dream” by Bruce S I can’t get the whistle part out of my head.  Tuesday’s Radio Free lunch will feature whistling songs like “Me And Julio Down By The School Yard”, “Young Folks” or “Golden Years”.

Commander In Chiefs

Monday, February 16th, 2009

It’s President’s Day so Monday’s Radio Free Lunch be songs that mention or are associated with presidents.  ”Cult Of Personality”, “Ohio” (Nixon), “Sympathy For The Devil (Kennedy)” and “The Presidents Of The United States Of America” are some of the early selections.

Step Right Up

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

We just got back from the Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey Circus at Phillips Arena.

My buddy Steve described it as X-Games meets the big top. Motorcycles in a cage!  How EXTREME! Charlie seemed more interested in the (!!) toy more than the circus itself. I can’t blame him, it was kinda boring and we were not feeling the creepy clowns. Meanwhile, I can now cross this off the list of things you have to take your kid to.

Since we’re spending V-Day with the child, we got the romantic dinner done last night at Craftbar. This is the more casual off shoot of Craft, started by Tom Colicchio from Top Chef.  The one in Atlanta just opened to rave reviews and we’re right along with them.  It was delicious and we can’t wait to go back.

Love And Stuff

Sappy Valentines Day love song alert!!! A Dave FM listener will be proposing on my show today at 12:25pm.  I don’t want to give away too much but they met on Match.com (really!), had their first date at Applebee’s (yes!) and he’s going to pop the question after 8 months of courtship.  She thinks she’s coming to the station to pick up tickets.  We have all kinds of prizes and treats for them (thx Highland Bakery for the cake!!) so I hope she says yes.  And if she says no, well, it will be good radio ;) .  The Radio Free Lunch will be “love songs”.  Post them with your looooove messages here………..

Today there was some juicy stuff in the (pop culture) news.  First, the story about Michael Stipe being a crappy tipper in a new book called “People Are Unappealing”.  This is so not surprising and I love this kind of dirt.  Expect an interview with the author for this blog when the book comes out.   Also, what about Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman?  What a total weirdo!! Meanwhile, this is huge publicity for the movie he’s in. I’m sure Letterman didn’t mind the PR either (he handled it great, unless it was staged, who knows).  Dave is also going to have U2 on the Late Show for 5 nights in a row in March. In other news, TMZ has photos of the Octuplet mom pregnant. Ew. Ew. Ew–but you have to see it!
