Go West

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

The West side of Atlanta is such a cool part of town (14th Street and Howell Mill). I’m over there all the time after kickboxing (Trammell Fitness, they rock). This area used to be really industrial and now it’s super hip with tons of great restaurants and shops. JCT Kitchen, Flip and West Egg (haven’t been but hear it’s great) Taqueria Del Sol and Bacchanalia and Star Provisions are a few of the dining options around here.

Bridge view to White Provision

For kids stuff, I love Sprout and Seed Factory.  If you’re looking for things for the home, there are so many shops to choose from (way too many to mention here).

Seed Factory

More shops (Room and Board) and restaurants (Abettoir) are opening in the Spring at White Provision so ch-ch-check it out soon!

Going Long

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Happy Friday!  Today’s Radio Free Lunch will be all songs with really long titles. Think “Elderly Woman Behind A Counter In A Small Town” or “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It And I Feel Fine”.

An Exercise in Community

And just a quick shameless plug (for a good cause) alert:  Join me Sunday at Turner Field for the Hunger Walk with the Atlanta Community Food Bank. The food bank does such amazing work and this is their biggest event of the year.  I’m thrilled to be a part of it!!

Rack Rock

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Have you heard about the “topless” coffee shop that opened in Maine?! In honor of this new caffeine concept, we are going to focus on the center attraction. There are tons of slang terms for boobies so let’s apply them into Thursday’s Radio Free Lunch set.  So far I’ve got the obvious, The Hooters, Blind Melon(s), Dancing Nancies and The Mountains Win Again.  Got a suggestion? Keep me abreast!!

Quit It

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

What could you give up for 40 days?  Wednesday is the first day of Lent and President Obama says we need to make sacrifices to help get the economy going.  Radio Free Lunch will be all things that you could give up for 40 days.  I’m thinking alcohol (Champagne Supernova), chocolate (Savoy Truffle), Wine (Red Red Wine) or coffee (Black Coffee In Bed)?  There are even people who are trying to give up Facebook (Face the Face) for lent?!?!

This Is Funny

John Mayer wrote a song for Conan O Brien on his last show last week. Hilarious and so true!

Alphabet Soup

Dave FM is giving away a trip to see U2 on Letterman next week and you can enter the contest here.  In honor of this very cool giveaway Tuesday’s Radio Free Lunch will be songs/bands with letters (like U2).  Think UB40, ABC, INXS or BB King.

Show Biz

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Of course today’s Radio Free Lunch is tied into the Oscars.  Hugh Jackman did a nice job and at least the producers kept it original.  The playlist today will be all songs associated with things you find on the red carpet.  Think diamonds, photographers, movie stars, etc. etc. .  Who do you think had the best dress??  My favorite was Natalie Portman.  HOT pink!

Congrats to Andrew Stanton who won for Wall E and here is a cool interview I did with him a few months back.  It’s a bummer that Taraji P Henson didn’t win but she looked hot.

She was soooo nice when she came into the studio in the fall.

Good Day Atlanta!

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Between watching the Oscars (now!) and getting up at the crack of dawn tomorrow–it’s going to a long 24 hours.  If you’re near a TV at around 8:20 Monday morning I’ll be on Fox 5! Very exciting! The appearance is for my upcoming “celebrity” (and I use that term very loosely) night at the Four Seasons chocolate buffet Friday March 6th.

Cake Walk

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Last night we celebrated Mike’s birthday (it’s Sunday if you care) with a Bart Simpson cake.  Is this thing not fabulous?!?!?

Thanks to the Highland Bakery (especially Jen, who made this) for pulling this off.  It looked and tasted great.  They can do anything—and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of their gems ends up on Cakewrecks (in a good way).  Thankfully I don’t have to fit into a dress for the Oscars tonight.  I can eat the leftovers while watching the stars walk the red carpet.  Can’t wait!!!!!!
