Year Of The Ox

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Chinese New Year symbols.jpg

Monday’s Radio Free Lunch will celebrate the Chinese New Year.  I’ll play all songs associated with China, walls, dragons, pandas or anything that mentions red, etc etc. Also on deck something from John Entwistle from the Who–who’s also known as “The Ox” (really!).  Special thanks to Kim and Kevin from @Nails and Spa who came up with the idea!

Mara on the “Purple Carpet”

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Mara talked with some “stars” on the Purple Carpet at the W Hotel in Buckhead. Mara ‘Imadiva’ Davis did not want to stay in the press tent and wait for them, so she forced me to go in and get drunk.

Ok the first video is the best with Ed Roland from Collective Soul. This one was the best and he was the most fun for Mara to talk with. The beginning of the video messed up so you can see Mara and Ed about 38 seconds into it. The end is funny when he starts drinking Mara’s grandma drink.

Then Mara talked with Sophia Bush from One Tree Hill.

Mara also got the chance to talk with the Real Housewives of Atlanta. At this point Mara had 1 or 5 drinks. So it gets really funny.

Finally Mara sings Jenny from the Block to Mycheal Knight.

Sorry it  got a lil shaky there at the end, I had a cocktail or 4 that Mara made me drink.

W…The Party

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Last night Elizabeth and I went to the swanky new W in Buckhead for their opening soiree.  We are going to post video later (if Elizabeth can recover from her hangover) and some of it is HILARIOUS.  The first “star” we talked to was Sophia Bush.

She’s on a show called One Tree Hill so I asked her if she liked the U2 song called One Tree Hill. Silence.  Am I that old?  We also ran into Ed Roland from Collective Soul with Jeff Dauler from Q100.  I’ll admit, I interviewed him with a cocktail but you have to make it interesting, right??  Jeff called me out on this the Bert Show today (Love it!  And it’s all true!) Also, hi to Jenn Hobby from the show who we hung out with in the press room. Next we ran into the Real Housewives of Atlanta who were getting the most attention.

I asked Sheree what her favorite word that started with W was (my question of the night).  I’m pretty sure she said “wonderful”…Boring. I know.  Next we saw Kim who is much prettier in person.  I asked her if she was dating Joe Francis, she said “no comment”.  This probably means yes.

Finally we ran into the glamourous Nene who was really, really sweet.  She was mum when I asked her if she is getting her own show on Bravo.

Apparently she and Kim have kissed and made up (do you care?).  There were other celebs (?) there who I didn’t talk to like Thom Filicia from Queer Eye (no big whoop) and some girl from that show “The City”.  I will admit, I have a lil’ bit of a headache today from the delicious cocktails at the party.  As soon as we get that video processed you’ll see it here—and it’ll be worth watching.  Gulp.  I’m nervous ;)

Horn-Y

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Friday’s Radio Free Lunch is inspired by the annual “Battle of the Bands” in downtown Atlanta this weekend. It’s a huge event for marching bands.  This is how I got the idea to play songs with big horn sections.  Let’s blow it out (har har har)!

Mara talks with Greg Proops

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Mara got the chance to talk with Greg Proops this morning. He will be doing the grand opening of the new comedy club in midtown, the  Laughing Skull Lounge tonight at 10 pm. If that is to late for you grandma’s, he also will be doing a show at the Funny Farm  at 8pm and all this weekend.

Plugs

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Know someone who’s expecting?  You must check out “My Boys Can Swim”.  This is a hilarious guys version of “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” and a perfect gift for a dad to be.  PS, it happens to be written by my brother Ian (SHAMELESS plug).

If you’re past the pregnancy days (or not even close) check out the Castleberry Art Stroll this weekend.  Meg Aubrey contacted me about her art showing this weekend.  I think her work is fantastic and it’s a great take on suburbia.

Here is all the pertinent info:

Island Jams

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Lost is BACK, finally!!  In honor of the season premiere we’ll tie it into Thursday’s Radio Free Lunch.  This question is SO cliche but–if you were stuck on a deserted island, what is the one CD you would bring with you??  It is so hard to pick ONE but you have to choose!! We’ll play back your selections at noon. Feel free to post your thoughts, theories and general nerdy comments about the first episode here (it takes one to know one!). We have to go back to the island!!!!

Bust a move

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Wednesday’s Radio Free Lunch topic will be “dancing” songs.  I was inspired while watching the Obama’s strut their stuff at 10 (!) balls last night (Michelle’s dress was AMAZING btw).  Nice moves Mr. President!

Making History

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Today’s inauguration transcends politics and it is so exciting to see history in the making.  The Radio Free Lunch will include the simulcast of the speeches and swearing in.  Former Political Correspondent from Channel 2 Bill Nigut will be be my guest with commentary . Music that relates to this occasion like “Brand New Day”, “Right Here, Right Now” or “Change The World” will be played throughout the show.  We welcome suggestions and feedback on what’s to come in the future with President Obama.   All opinions welcome!!

New U2 song

u2-790983.jpg

Is streaming now at U2.com.  We’re playing it on Dave-FM.  It’s called “Get On Your Boots” from new album called “No Line on the Horizon”.  It comes out in March.  It kinda reminds me of Veritgo.  What do you think??
