Favorite year

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

As we lead up to New Year’s, Tuesday’s Radio Free Lunch show will feature “year” songs.  Either songs that mention a particular year (Summer of 69, 1979) or just year in general (All those years ago, Year of the Cat).

Happy New Year

The great Margot will be filling in for me Wednesday and she’s going to do a twist on NYE as well.  All songs with bells and ringing as in ringing in the New Year (good one girl!).

Pet names

Bob Marley

Since Marley and Me was the biggest movie of the weekend, Monday’s Radio Free lunch will be artists who have good names for pets.  I’ve met dogs named Elvis before.  My buddy Kaedy Kiley’s cats are named Lenny (Kravitz) and Bono.  Slash would be a great name for a cat.  If you’re not in Atlanta, you can listen live at 12PM EST!

Whew

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

The past few days we’ve been with the child full force—as in trying going to the bathroom in peace is a real luxury. Whoever made up the term “terrible twos” is a clueless idiot.  Two was fine, three is HELL.  There have been moments this week where I’ve looked at my adorable child (padding for the next statement) while I think “You are the spawn from SATAN and if you don’t STFU and quit hanging, screaming, whining and being a complete AHOLE in general I’m going to lock you in a room forever! (or lock myself in a room, which is what I’ve been doing sometimes)”.  Wow, did I just say that?  Ahhhhhh. That feels good.  Mike has taken the monster over to his cousin’s house so I can get a second of peace. Breeeeaaaaaaathe.

Christmas come down

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

Present opening was terrific and Charlie’s favorite gift was a Wall E robot (which he took to bed with him).  St. Simons was unusually warm so we were outside in the sun most of the day (tough life!).

Later on my brother in law Drew and I saw “Marley and Me”. It wasn’t  great, but it wasn’t horrible either.  Jennifer Aniston was so bland, I just don’t understand what the appeal is about her.  My favorite part is how she has 3 kids over a ten years and doesn’t age a lick(or gain a pound). Owen Wilson was OK but the dog is pretty much the best part.  Even though the film was pretty mediocre, I still boo hoo-ed like a baby in the end.  I really have to read this book as I know it’s got to be 10 times better than the movie.

Merry Christmas!

I hope you get everything you want this year.  If not, maybe it came with a gift receipt so you exchange it for something you want.  Ho ho ho!!!!

Happy Hanukkah!

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

We’re a “blended” family so I’m trying to expose Charlie to Christmas and Hanukkah.  There was a celebration in our neighborhood tonight so we decided to go.  Who knew the AJC was going to be shooting photos??

A circle of women dance around Mara Davis and her son, Charlie Kane, 3, during the Hanukkah celebration. JESSICA MCGOWAN / JMCGOWAN@AJC.COM

We just happened to be standing there and in came the dancers and photographers. I swear I wasn’t trying to get into the picture for publicity (ha!). Later while lighting our menorah,  Charlie sang”Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” and blew out the candles. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow ;)
In other random news, special thanks to the Patagonia store in Buckhead. Charlie’s main winter jacket had a broken zipper and it was going to take a while to fix it.  Instead of having to wait it out they replaced the jacket–no questions asked (Charlie has it on in the photo)!  I was blown away by their customer service (thx Sloan!!). This is one of my favorite stores and their sale in February rocks.

Random Sunday AM thoughts

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

I’m in vacation mode which is why I’ve decided to make about a dozen strips of turkey bacon.  I’m not sure what prompted me to do this, but there you go. We’re leaving for St. Simons on Tuesday some major Christmas action.  I’m bringing our menorah with us since I don’t think there is one to be found in that town. And I’m not eating turkey bacon because I’m kosher, I just like it better and hear it’s sorta healthier?  Before I leave I will be hitting my all time favorite workout, with Richard, Phil and Jaral at Trammell Martial Arts and Fitness. It’s boxing, cardio, weights at a hard core boxing gym.  I LOVE these guys and will be needing them more than ever after the holidays. Pass the bacon!!!

Company partying

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

CBS radio’s annual holiday gathering was a fun bowling party at 300 lanes.  Since there’s 3 stations in the group (Dave, V103 and WAOK) they paired people up who wouldn’t normally be together for bowling.  This was a fabulous idea and Elizabeth and I had a blast.

There were mostly people from V there so this was the first time I got to meet “Lil” Bankhead  (as in Bankhead Highway). I introduced myself as “Lil” Peachtree and he was mildly amused.  Later on we went to Mike’s Headline News (now HLN) party. I looked everywhere for morning queen Robin Meade, but she didn’t show up this year (bummer! pictures of her get more hits to this blog ;). Atlanta radio legend Clark Howard was there since he has a new show debuting on the network in January.  You have no idea how long I had to stalk him to get this photo (he is a rock star!). Thanks Clark!  Can’t wait to see you on Network TV!!
