Sports First…

How great is it that we have a baseball post season without the Yankees!? I love it!
All the money the Yankees spend and they are sitting home watching the Tampa Bay
Rays!!! Go Red Sox by the way!!!
In college football, BCS hopes dashed as Georgia takes it on the chin against Alabama.
Big games Saturday with GA/TN and Texas/Oklahoma.
NFL. Is there any better division that the NFC East. Giants, Redskins and Cowboys all
on a roll. I just saw an article online about how Eli is better than Peyton. Yikes.
I’d say that’s true right now given that the Giants are undefeated and look like they are bound for the playoffs again (I know it’s early) and the Colts have the same record than the Miami Dolphins
and the Baltimore Ravens. Teams like the Falcons, Panther, Titans and the Brady-less Patriots
have BETTER records than the Colts. Ouch.

I’m looking at some breaking news right now about North Korea conduction some short range
nuclear missle tests today. That sounds like fun. Is it me or are these interesting times?
Economy in the toilet. Mortgage industry is crap. No credit. Banks unstable. Real estate market
in the cellar. We’re at war. Insurance industry with all sorts of financial problems.

Are we screwed?

For a little while of course. But Paul Harvey has a saying I love: “in times like these, it’s
important to remember that there have always been times like these”. We’ll make it through this.
We’ll be back. It’ll be rough for a while, but we will be ok. Americans are a strong bunch.

While we wait for all this crap to get ironed out, what are you doing for fun?? Are you getting out
and having fun with friends? Or are you buying into the fear that’s heaped on us everyday on tv?

Remind me to never go on vacation

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Are you like me in that when you’re away from work all you think about is work? I’m like that. I’m a worrier - BIGTIME. And I really miss being on the air. I’m half tempted to just show up today and tell them I want to be back on.

Anyway. I am really loving this new Fearless Football Picks segment that Zakk and I are doing. All brought to you by the SportsZone at Applebee’s - with widescreen TVs, drink specials and the NFL Sunday Ticket from DirecTV by the way! We talk football every Tuesday morning at 8:45 and then pick our 5 games every Friday afternoon at 4:30. You can play along by getting to the Fearless Football Picks page at www.edave.com. And out of the gate in week one, Zakk and I each went 3 out of 5. And Zakk knows way more about football than I do so I am really going to be working hard to get ahead of him!!!

I have had a lot of time this week to listen to lots of music - old and new - and here are some highlights.

- The Attery Squash, an interesting electronic group from the UK. Check em out at www.myspace.com/theatterysquash. “If It’s Too Stupid” is a fun little song.

- Little Milton - late Bluesman from Mississippi - http://www.myspace.com/littlemilton16.
What a voice. Here’s a little more on Little Milton: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Milton

- Kuriaki - www.myspace.com/anderkuriaki - More electric. The song Hydrophonic has some great samples of Al Pacino in Devils Advocate, and you know that plays big with me.

OK, now you must think I am totally weird. And you’d be right!

See you Monday afternoon - it can’t come soon enough!!!

xoxo Sully

Football season is finally here

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Well it’s been a while, but here I am. Football season is finally here and I know that if you love
the game, you love this time of year!! Personally, I’m more of a buckets guy and can’t wait for late October when they start playing basketball again.

The Falcons are set to have - according to the experts - a pretty disappointing season. I will remain optimistic week-to-week and pull for them no matter what. I don’t care much for these experts anyway. They’re the same bunch that gave the University of Georgia no credit for being #1 in the country and omitted them from
their top 5. (Mel Kiper). But DJ Shockley made the team and all is right in the world. Go Dawgs. Go Falcons.

My relationship with Applebees is back up in full swing this year. I will be hitting various locations from time to time to watch some of the big games. You know I love the ‘Bees because they have great people working there, great, affordable food AND $2 Miller High Life 22oz drafts! LOVE THAT. Please enjoy responsibly. All the Applebees have the NFL Sunday Ticket from DirecTV so no matter which team you pull for, the game will be on at Applebees!!! Yes!!

It was sad to read about the passing of Don LaFontaine this morning. He’s one of the most recognized voices in the US but you may not have ever known his name. People often referred to him as “the movie announcer guy”
and I’m sure he didn’t mind. He had a limo driver taking him to and from his voice over gigs and was paid in the millions for doing what he loved to do. May you rest in peace, Don LaFontaine. 1940-2008. “In a world. One man.
One desire.”

That’s all I have. What’s up with you? Leave a comment or send email to sully@929dave.fm

And I have been lobbying the music dept at dave fm for an all Sinatra hour. I’ll keep you posted on that,
but in the mean time, check out some of the greatness that was/is the Chairman of the Board.

Man oh man. I am staying so super busy these days….
AT&T, Applebee’s, Peachtree Road Race, Loafing Leprechaun,Tuaca shots… you name it, I’m doing it. And I could not behappier with all the great events I get to do!

Question for you. Have you ever been to a restaurant and had a lousy experience? OF COURSE! Well, I was in Virginia Highland over the weekend and went to the lamest place ever! Dreadful average food and the four servers that were covering one, count em, ONE table were bust watching the Braves game instead of taking care of me!

And that’s what my world is all about!@!! Anyhoo. I was just supremely disappointed.

I think that in the year 2008, more than ever, you need to have good people working for you in order to be successful. And this is so evident in the restaraunt business because almost every single aspect of your business is on display to the customer at all times. I won’t mention the name of the place I am talking about, nor will I declare that I am “never going back there”. I will just simply say that I was underwhelmed.

And how about that 17 inning baseball game the other day. Wow. Not to mention the near 2-hour rain delay before the game even started. It was wicked fun though. Gregg from Tower Package in Buckhead was in the mix with Chris Jones at Eagle Rock Distributors who had a group in a suite for the game. It was so fun!! Thanks Gregg! I did leave in the 13th inning though.

Flag on the play.

That’s all I have.

Almost the 4th of July

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Here it is. Almost the 4th of July. Is it me or is this year flying by faster than any other? It was as if New Years Eve was just yesterday!!

I am gonna be watching the Peachtree Road Race at my friend Brian’s place right on Peachtree. I love the Peachtree and this year I will be watching it from just below Peachtree Battle. Usually I watch it from south of Piedmont Hospital or at the intersections of 14th and Peachtree. Should be lots of fun.

It has been so busy for me lately I sometimes need help keeping up with everything. I load everything into my blackberry and hope that I make it to everything that I have committed to. Tonight I’m off to El Azteca in Alpharetta. Saturday I’m at an AT&T store in Lawrenceville for a few hours. Sunday I’m going to the Braves game with the managers group from Tower Package (we’re in the Budweiser suite! Yeah!). Busy, busy, busy.

Our big boss at work, Rick Caffey, keeps a nice big jar full of peanut M&M’s on his desk and I often go in there when he’s not in and take a few. I do this a lot. So this week I went and got three big bags from Kroger and replenished the supply. Sucking up? No. Just making restitution for stolen property.
