Oh, I still exist.

Monday, April 6th, 2009

I haven’t written a post in a long time. In the last few months, I got married, I went on medical leave, I went to MI for the holidays, and since the beginning of the year, have gotten phenomenally busy at work. I was going to let my silence on the blog speak for itself but that seems rude. As much as I like the idea that I have a voice on edave, I just don’t blog enough to warrant you coming back to see if I have updated. I have my own page here on edave and there’s lots of my past interviews and pictures of artist visits. I’ll be putting my Dave After Tomorrow playlists on there and also dave roots (our HD2 station) playlists.

Out of the office (and the studio)

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

I’ll be off air for the next couple weeks. I have to take a bit of a leave but if my doctor gives the okay, I’ll be back on air with you on Monday 12/8.

Yvonne Monet and Renee will be covering my show while I’m gone, so you’ll be in good hands.

While I’m recuperating, I’ll be listening to lots of music and will have plenty of recommendations when I’m back!

From Brad Pemberton of the Cardinals

This was posted on the Cardinals blog but I thought it would be good to post it here too.

Atlanta…

Hi everyone, Brad here…I’m on the  bus, heading home, after a long 3 weeks.  We have all battled illness, I had a bad neck for a few days, and tonight, Ryan lost his voice.  I heard it last night starting to go, I heard it today at radio, getting rougher, and tonight, it finally gave.  Believe me, we ALL wish tonight’s show had not ended the way it did…it left everyone unsatisfied…Ryan, the band, and especially you, the audience.  I’m sure Ryan will address this himself at some point, but we certainly did not intend for tonight’s show to go off the way it did…sometimes, shit just happens…  As far as making up this show to the Atlanta audience…we owe you one…Atlanta has ALWAYS been a city that has shown us lots of love, and it breaks my heart to pull out of there feeling like we let you down.  I know some people will understand, others may have already written us off…please, let us make it up to you.  Somehow, someway, we will make this right.  Thanks to everyone who came…you guys are the best, and you deserve the best…much love…I’m going home to sleep until Monday… yours humbly, Brad

Dave After Tomorrow

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

When I first fired up Dave After Tomorrow again, I was a little apprehensive. The format of the show has changed a bit and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to find degrees of commonality in weekly topics. However, I have 3 under my belt now, and I have to say the altered format has been fun and challenging. I hope you have felt the same way.

The next 3 weeks of topics are:

  1. 10/21  I-75
  2. 10/28  Halloween
  3. 11/4  Election Day

Tune in Tuesday nights at 8. If you have any comments or suggestions about Dave After Tomorrow, please let me know.

Center Ice

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

I make no secret of the fact that in a sea of football fans, I’m an unapologetic hockey chick. Every year, I spring for the Center Ice package so I can see my beloved Red Wings. (I’m certainly not dissing the Thrashers because I go to lots of their games. But I grew up in Michigan.)

Anyway, the point of this post, other than to share my enthusiasm for hockey, is to let you know there are two places in Atlanta you can go and watch hockey, no matter who you root for, because they have Center Ice and they are fun places to hang.

If you’re ever in my neighborhood, East Atlanta, you need to check out The Midway Pub. http://www.themidwaypub.com  It’s one of my homes away from home. I guarantee you that you will like it a lot. You don’t just need to go for hockey, either, because they show all the NFL and college games too.

The other place that’s cool is a place Sully turned me on to. It’s the Midtown Tavern. http://www.midtowntavern.net/news.php  As the name suggests, it’s located in Midtown and you can get any sports fix you want.

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite moments in hockey history. Go McCarty! (By the way, if you see the number 13 sweater in this video, it is Thrashers 13, Slava Kozlov. He was a Wing before he came to Atlanta.)

Currently listening to…

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Well, not currently, as I’m on the air as I write this, but literal interpretations aside, these musicians have all recently released good CDs:

Kings of Leon

Modern Skirts

The Muckrakers

Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers

Ben Folds

Also, new songs from The Cardinals (with Ryan Adams) ”Fix It’” and Butch Walker “The Weight of Her” are really good.

Your vote does matter.

Modern Skirts

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

I hosted Acoustic Sunset today. It’s hard to get me out on a Sunday, but I volunteered because one of my favorite local bands was performing. If you haven’t heard the Modern Skirts, give them a listen. They have a new album out, called All Of Us In Our Night and it’s really good.

You can check them out and listen to some of their new songs at http://www.myspace.com/modernskirts

Here’s a video of them performing “Motorcade,” a song off their new CD:

Dave After Tomorrow

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Dave After Tomorrow returns! If you aren’t familiar, DAT was a show I did for a couple years on Thursday nights. I would explore various genres of music, musicians, and all sorts of music related things. For reasons I can’t get into, it went away about a year and a half ago. …However, it’s coming back. Yay!

Starting This Tuesday 9/23, at 8pm, and every Tuesday thereafter, tune in for Dave After Tomorrow!

I’ll post some upcoming DAT topics in the next couple days

Heads up

Monday, September 15th, 2008

I just wanted you to have a heads up that on April 24, 2009, Orff will probably be filling in for me. I’ll be getting married that day. …No, really!

I don’t normally post anything too currently personal on my blog but it’s big news so I wanted to share.
